How to Discover Your Beauty

Finding Your Bliss

I have been spending a lot of time researching the fashion industry.  In my research, I have been watching fashion documentaries and I am learning so much from them. I thought it would be fun to share what I am learning from these films. For the month of March, I will be doing a series on What I learned from specific fashion documentaries. I hope you enjoy it as much as I love sharing what I am learning.

First up is the documentary House of Z, the story of fashion designer, Zac Posen.  Zac’s was surrounded by celebrities and women who were knocking at his door to wear his designs. At the early age of 20, he became a fashion design superstar. Unfortunately, rising so quickly at a young age, he wasn’t prepared to handle all the responsibility that came with it and suffered a very tough and public fall in the fashion industry.

Despite the fall, it was clear to me that Zac was passionate about fashion and design. You can see it in his eyes whenever he was at work.  Something in his soul seemed bigger than him and bigger than the critics of the industry.

There was one particular part of the documentary that really spoke to me. It was when Zac’s father recited Joseph Campbell’s perspective on finding your bliss to Zac.

Poets are simply those who have made a profession and lifestyle of being in touch with their bliss.

There is something inside you that knows when you are in the center, that knows when you are on the beam or off the beam.

🤗🌸😌

If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track, that has been there all the while, waiting for you. And the life you ought to be living is the one you are living.

Follow your bliss and don’t be afraid. Doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.

The documentary showed Posen as a child draping a cloth over a structure and then the next shot was of Zac in the present creating dresses by draping materials on the mannequin in deep thought of creation.

This documentary really hit home for me. I learned from this documentary that it only affirms the inner beauty that God places within us.  God places his image within us. God blesses us with skills, talents, gifts, and passions. You can clearly see it in Zac throughout the movie, especially in the last scene.
It filled my heart with joy and tears.  I saw God’s image in Zac working from the inside out.  He pursued his passion despite obstacles. Despite the battle of his own demons such as self-doubt and insecurities, he continued to pursue his passion and gifts and doors opened for him.  He has learned from the trials in his early career and has found a way to transform  his art into a profitable business.

It also showed me that God is a God of second chances, he always gives us time and space to learn from our past not dwell in it.

I am not sure what battles you may be battling right now, what demons are suppressing your joy and passions for the life God created you for.

Maybe it’s not a purpose in your life, perhaps it’s that broken relationship you want to fix, or that future spouse you want to meet, or that target weight goal you are trying to achieve.

God created you and placed desires in your heart because he loves you and he wants to bless his children.  Whatever is challenging you, doubt, insecurities, the fear of not knowing, I ask you to let it go and let God.   He will open the doors for you if you quiet your spirit and listen to his direction. He will show you his way of attaining these desires, so he can bring them to past. He doesn’t want you to fantasize about the day when X  happens, he wants to lead you to make it a reality. He put those desires in your heart not only to fulfill you but to change the world as a result of it.

“This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth, you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. Haven’t I commanded you; be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”

Joshua 1: 8-9

Now is the time to move towards him to seek his counsel and pursue the desires he has placed in your heart. Remember in those tough moments of uncertainty as he pushes you out of your comfort zone, that he is with you and is guiding you.

Love in abundance,

Jamie
